Find out why Compass Pools stand out from any other fibreglass pool

Over the last 4 decades we've perfected the art of creating stunning pool surfaces that cannot be rivaled by any other brand. Our unique large colour chip technology and innovative Bi-luminite colouring system ensures your new Compass Pool commands attention in any backyard.

The Bi-luminite Colour System

The Compass Bi-luminite colouring system uses a dual-layer approach to create an amazing 3D effect when your pool is filled with water. You will be astounded by how much your pool sparkles in the sunlight. Not only will your pool look stunning, it also comes with an added layer of protection. Beneath the gelcoat surface layer, is a second colour layer made from high-quality vinyl ester resin, providing extra water-proofing protection for your pool's structure. The gelcoat interior also plays its part by providing a durable surface and by protecting the underlying vinyl ester colour layer from direct exposure to sunlight. This will help your pool to maintain a consistent appearance as it ages, and to continue looking great throughout its lifetime. Learn more about the Bi-luminite technology here.

The Vivid Colour System

The Vivid range offers a wide selection of popular and vibrant colours. All Vivid pools are created using our exclusive large colour chips which are made in house. The use of these larger chips means that every Vivid Pool captures attention and becomes a centre piece of your back yard.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pool Colours

What does Bi-luminite mean?

Bi-luminite is the name we use to describe our unique dual layer colour system. Unlike traditional fibreglass pools which pigment the gel coat layer, Compass Pools come with a solid colour layer behind a semi tinted gel coat. This protects the solid colour layer from exposure to UV and pool chemicals (we call this Armour shield) while giving an incredible 3D effect when the pool is filled with water. Compass Bi-luminite pools are also made using our exclusive large colour chips which make large flecks of colour "pop" when the pool is filled.

What is the difference between the Bi-luminite and Vivid colour ranges?

Our Vivid series pool shells are a super-strong pool with the added benefit of a Ceramic Core (just like the Bi-luminite series). Whilst the Bi-luminite series uses a dual layer approach to colouring the pool, the Vivid series follows the more traditional gel-coat colouring process. Because of this, the Bi-luminite series comes with an extended 10 year cosmetic warranty and a full lifetime structural warranty, while the Vivid series has a 7 year cosmetic warranty and a 25 year structural warranty. As you would expect, the Biluminite colour series requires more materials because of the dual layer approach, it also offers greater warranty protections, and therefore costs more than the Vivid colour series.

What are the most popular pool colours?

The great thing about fibreglass pools is that you get a range of colours that concrete pools simply do not offer. In 2025 the most popular pool colours in New Zealand were Quartz, Viridian, Evolution and Sapphire all of which are from the Bi-luminte series.

How long will my pool colour last?

All Compass pools are made with the knowledge that they will spend an entire lifetime under the sun and exposed to pool chemicals. We've spent decades researching the perfect formula to ensure that your pool looks fantastic, not just from day one but even 10, 15 or 20 years from now.

The truth is, anyone who tells you that your pool won't change over time is pulling the wool over your eyes. Anything that sits under the sun and is exposed to fluctuating levels of chlorine and acid will no-doubt look different 20 years later. That said, the aim is for the pool shell to change so subtly that you can never really tell the difference. The trick all comes down to using the highest quality gel coats and resins. We offer industry leading cosmetic warranties that aren't written with a whole bunch of get-out clauses so you can be confident that your pool will stand the test of time.
